There’s always so much to do and it can be tough to even know where to start! So if you’re looking for some home cleaning tips, we’ve got you covered.
Believe it or not, but cleaning and organizing can be easy (and dare we say fun), if you know what you’re doing and have a plan. Ready to spruce up, declutter, get organized, and reclaim your home? Here are some of our favorite home cleaning tips.
Our Top 3 Home Cleaning Tips
1. Let it Go
By now, you’ve probably seen (or at least heard about) the Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. Kondo’s core tenant to decluttering and tidying up centers around one simple question: “Does this item spark joy?” If it doesn’t, get rid of it! Start with your closets and donate all those old clothes you’ll never wear again. Clean out all those old newspapers, magazines, out of date warranty papers, user manuals, and any other documents you no longer need (just be sure to properly shred any documents that may contain personal or sensitive materials). Pitch all that excess Tupperware and kitchen gadgets that are broken or you never use and dump out the junk drawer. Also, don’t forget to dispose of electronic items you no longer use — power cords, old phones and chargers, remotes, small appliances, etc. Check with your local community and/or a shredding company to see if they accept and recycle electronics. Stop hoarding. You won’t need it someday. Channel your inner Elsa and just let it go!
2. Reorganize (Or Get Organized)
Now that you’re down to just the things you need and truly love, it’s time to organize it all. As they say, a place for everything and everything in its place! Reorganize your kitchen with drawer dividers, cabinet drawers, pantry shelves, etc. Get closets in order with streamlined hangers, shoe racks, or shelving systems. Invest in storage bins that are easy to access and see what’s contained in them. Install new shelves or hang ceiling shelves. Get tables or ottomans that double as storage units. Make use of “empty space” (under beds, above toilets or appliances, etc.). Check out places like the Home Depot, the Container Store, IKEA, or Wal-Mart and you’ll find tons of organization equipment at every price level and style.
3. Clean From Top to Bottom
Now that you’re streamlined and organized, it’s time to get clean! Scrub out all those stains, dirt, and odors that have accumulated. Start by giving your walls a good wipe down, or better yet, repaint the walls or high-traffic areas like interior doors and baseboards. Remember, a fresh coat of paint does so much more than just cover up. Hit the floors next. Mop the kitchen and bath areas, vacuum area rugs, shine up those hardwood floors, and clean the carpets. If you have the means, have carpets professionally cleaned or get your floors refinished. Finally, give all your showers, bathtubs, toilets, fridges, and freezers a good scrub down. While you’re at it, give all your appliances a nice cleanup.
And now, you’re done! Enjoy your clean, tidy, and organized home. Or treat yourself with some new home decor or accessories! You deserve it after all that hard work!
